The HSBC Holdings plc and its subsidiaries (HSBC) is an international commercial bank headquartered in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. With a history of over 150 years, the international network of HSBC covers 72 countries and territories, including a presence in five small island developing States and least developed countries. Currently, HSBC has a volume of more than US$ 200 billion across 37 countries in sustainable energy, transport and clean water projects. HSBC is currently ranked as the world’s number one project advisor and infrastructure finance house, and the leading advisor in sub-Saharan Africa. HSBC sought accreditation to the GCF in order to share its experience and skills to assess the risks associated with infrastructure investment opportunities, as well as to act as an educator, via its climate change centre, offering a dedicated research capability focusing on the investment implications of climate change. HSBC offers to arrange and finance public and private partnerships projects in developing countries and work with local and regional banks on infrastructure and project financing, sharing its expertise and experience and building its skills base.
