International Fund for Agricultural Development
IFAD
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), is an international organization whose objective of to improve agricultural development and livelihoods in developing countries. Its projects and programmes are carried out in remote and environmentally fragile locations, including least developed countries and small island developing States. The IFAD assists vulnerable groups such as smallholder farmers, pastoralists, foresters, fishers and small-scale entrepreneurs in rural areas by providing, among others, access to weather information, disaster preparedness, social learning and technology transfer that enables farmers to feed growing populations and increase the climate resilience of rural farming systems.

Agreement bolstering Africa’s climate vulnerable sign of rapid GCF implementation
04 Apr 2022 / The Green Climate Fund (GCF) has signed an implementation agreement to scale up climate action across 13 African countries soon after the new funding programme was approved by the GCF Board. The programme, implemented by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), empowers African national and local banks to direct funds to help farmers cope with increasingly erratic climate effects while also reducing farming emissions.
Great Green Wall gets USD 82.8 million boost from GCF and IFAD
08 Nov 2021 / A project agreement has been signed in the margins of the COP26 meeting in Glasgow to green-light a USD 82.8 million GCF investment in support of the Great Green Wall. GCF and IFAD have today signed the agreement for the “Africa Integrated Climate Risk Management Programme: Building the resilience of smallholder farmers to climate change impacts in 7 Sahelian Countries of the Great Green Wall (GGW)”
IFAD and GCF scale-up action to improve life for millions of people and restore ecosystems in Africa’s Great Green Wall
11 Jan 2021 / Millions of poor farmers living in the world’s most climate-impacted parts of the Sahel have cause for hope today because of their governments’ support for accelerating Africa’s Great Green Wall (GGW), an area covering 11 countries from Senegal and Mali in the West to Ethiopia and Djibouti in the East. A new investment programme is planned to support Sahelian governments through a partnership between the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in order to boost climate finance for these rural populations.
