The Pacific Community (SPC) is a regional entity serving as the principal scientific and technical organization supporting development in the Pacific region. It was established by the Agreement Establishing the South Pacific Commission in 1947 and is owned and governed by its 26 members, including all 22 Pacific island countries and territories. With its vision for a region of peace, harmony, security, social inclusion and prosperity and for all Pacific people to lead free, healthy and productive lives, SPC has been focused on sustainable economic development, empowered and resilient Pacific communities and enhanced health and livelihoods of Pacific people with a view to achieving its members’ development goals.

GCF upgrades climate support for vulnerable Pacific nations
08 Nov 2019 / The Green Climate Fund is improving its understanding of Pacific island needs to fortify their frontline place in the climate crisis by strengthening its ties with the Pacific Community (SPC).
GCF today signed an Accreditation Master Agreement (AMA) with this Pacific-based regional body to provide the legal framework for funding climate projects.
GCF Deputy Executive Director Javier Manzanares said GCF is paying particular attention to supporting the resilience of Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to match their extreme vulnerability to climate impacts.
