Agreements, processes, and tools to move towards a climate-resilient society in El Salvador
Agreements, processes, and tools to move towards a climate-resilient society in El Salvador
Due to its geographical location and its economic and social situation, El Salvador is one of the countries with the highest risk and vulnerability to global climate change, including climate variability. The impacts of climate change and climate variability are evident in losses of human lives, harvests, and ecosystems; damages in human settlements, the reduction of the quantity and quality of water, the higher incidence of diseases, and reduced food security, being the poorest sectors of the society the most affected. Incremental and transformative measures will be necessary, given the intensity of the current and anticipated effects of climate change in the country.
The objective of this NAP is to strengthen institutional engagement and capacities to plan, finance, implement, monitor, and report strategic adaptation processes, considering stakeholders at multiple levels. The project is expected to contribute towards increasing the adaptive capacity of El Salvador’s most vulnerable people in the medium to long term by designing and implementing outcomes under a highly participative scope that considers gender-, ethnic groups-, and youth perspective and recognizes climate vulnerabilities and risks in the medium to long term.
