Direct Access Entity Support and Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry Pipeline Development in Colombia
The agriculture, forestry and other land use sector (AFOLU) accounts for 42% of Colombia´s GHG emissions and the largest share of Colombia’s NDC mitigation targets. Yet, the mitigative potential of the sector is far from being achieved. In fact, AFOLU emission trends in the country have not registered significant changes over the past decade. The proposed Readiness program aims to increase the flow of affordable long-term climate finance to sustain Colombia´s sustainable AFOLU projects by:
- Providing capacity building and technical assistance to Finagro, Colombia´s largest provider of finance to the AFOLU sector, to seek GCF accreditation and channel affordable climate finance to agriculture and forestry producers.
- Promoting knowledge sharing between the NDA, existing DAEs and Finagro to avoid common pitfalls of the GCF accreditation process.
- Prioritazing Finagro´s project pipeline based on Colombia´s GCF country programme, NDC targets and the financing needs of sustainable AFOLU projects.
- Developing and submitting at least one concept note on blendedfinance instrument targeting the agriculture and/or forestry sector.
- Strengthening Finagro´s capacity to develop innovative green investment projects and to access international climate finance.
- Developing Colombia´s National Financing Strategy for the Forestry Sector complementing Colombia´s National Climate Finance Strategy.
