Mainstreaming Climate Smart Planning and Implementation into Agricultural Development

Agriculture is a highly climate sensitive sector, and future climate change poses key risks that will affect national economic growth and millions of livelihoods in Rwanda. The sector is also the largest source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the country. As a result, agriculture has been identified as a key priority in Rwanda’s Green Growth and Climate Resilience Strategy (GGCRS)

The proposed programme aligns to this national priority and aims to implement climate smart agriculture in Rwanda. To ensure country ownership, the proposal aligns with the national policy for implementation of green growth and climate resilience through mainstreaming in national and sector development planning. This involves the integration of adaptation and mitigation into existing policies, strategies and processes, rather than implementing as stand-alone projects
