Supporting Yemen to develop its Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy (LT-LEDS) and Measuring, Reporting and Verifying (MRV) system for climate finance and support received
The project will contribute to achieving Yemen’s green transition and economic development through the development of a Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy (LT-LEDS) and associated investment plan and key sectorial strategies for the key sectors for the transition, and robust MRV systems focused on tracking support received to shift towards low carbon development pathway. This will be achieved by enhancing institutional capacities, improving available information, and providing tools for key public and private institutions to enhance planning processes and strategic frameworks for mobilizing climate investment for the country.
The main beneficiary of the grant is the Government of Yemen and key actors in the sectors relevant to climate change. In particular, the EPA achieving to establish strategic framework for implementing low emission measures contributing to the country’s NDC and national priorities. Yemen's National Climate Change Committee (NCCC) members including the Technical Committee, the LED committee will be activated and operationalized. Key line ministries including Ministry of Water, Ministry of Electricity and Energy, Ministry of Industries and others who will benefit from the sectoral plans as well as Ministry of Finance for setting clear investment strategy. Engaging private sector in setting the LEDS priorities and define a clear role with incentives for the private sector to be actively involved in the LEDS delivery.
