Scaling up CoP annual workshop: Climate Change Working Group event
Virtual, 22:00 - 00:00 KST
17 November 2021
UNFCCC COP26 is a unique milestone for ambitious and decisive actions to reinforce global solidarity to maintain temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius while promoting resilience to the impact of climate change. As developing countries continue to grapple with the threats of COVID-19, climate change and biodiversity loss, there is little time to lose. The UN Secretary-General called the recent IPCC Report ‘nothing less than a Code Red for Humanity’, noting that the world is not on track to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals or the ambition of the Paris Agreement by 2030.
The Green Climate Fund and the Scaling Up Community of Practice (CoP) are co-organizing the Climate Change Working Group event at the 6th Annual Workshop of the Scaling Up CoP.
The event takes place this year right after COP26 and puts us in a highly favorable position for discussing fresh intakes and outcomes from the COP26 and the way ahead of us. What can we expect in the upcoming future? How can we scale up climate finance and investments for delivering on the targets?
The event will be structured in two main sessions. The first will be a high-level panel reflecting on COP26 and the way forward. The second session of the event is envisioned for members of the scaling up CoP to react and further discuss on the panel discussion to better understand what it means for the scaling up initiative in general. The participants will have a chance to tackle, in a moderated discussion, actions to be implemented and elaborate on how the scaling up COP can support the international financial engagement on climate action.
