Bonn: Calling for global climate action
Ahead of its High-level Pledging Conference, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) today calls for countries to demonstrate their climate ambitions through pledges.
The conference to be held Thursday, 5 October 2023 in Bonn, Germany, brings together government ministers and top climate experts to drive the Fund’s second replenishment cycle or GCF-2.
The day-long session also aims to further strengthen GCF’s ability to urgently respond to the climate crisis and empower meaningful climate action in developing countries over the next four years (2024-2027).
Six countries recently announced their contributions to the Fund at the UN Climate Ambition Summit in New York. Pledges were received from France (EUR1.61 billion); Iceland (USD 3.2 million); Luxembourg (EUR 50 million); Slovakia (EUR 2.2 million); Slovenia (EUR 1.5 million); Spain (EUR 225 million).
These pledges follow earlier commitments made by Austria (EUR 160 million), Canada (CAD 450 million), Czechia (USD 4 million), Denmark (USD 232 million), Germany (EUR 2 billion), Monaco (EUR 3.3 million), the Republic of Korea (USD 300 million) and the United Kingdom (USD 2 billion).
The Pledging Conference will be livestreamed on the GCF website. Updates will also be posted on GCF’s social media channels.
