The four Multilateral Climate Funds (MCFs) - the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Adaptation Fund, the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) - launched the Climate Project Explorer at COP29.  The announcement was made at the November 14th side event “Catalyzing climate impact” organised by the COP29 Presidency and the MCFs, where the MCFs also affirmed their commitment to working together to support developing countries.

The Climate Project Explorer is an innovative AI-powered search platform designed to explore the climate projects and programmes financed by the four largest climate funds in the world.

Jointly developed by the MCFs, and powered by Climate Policy Radar, it will provide all stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, researchers, civil society and the private sector, easy access to climate project information.

The Climate Project Explorer has a live, searchable database of climate projects funded by the four MCFs, complete with detailed descriptions, concept notes, full proposals and performance reports. Its AI-powered search functionality will help find and explore relevant projects based on specific criteria, such as location, sector, funding type, and the specific climate fund.

The Climate Project Explorer is one of the concrete initiatives the MCFs are leading to enhance complementarity and coherence across the climate funds and within the broader climate finance architecture to strengthen access to climate finance and increase the impact of their work in support of developing countries’ climate goals. The platform will evolve, over time, to also include policies and other information, to further support the funds’ efforts in streamlining and harmonising.

The platform will aid in project development and knowledge exchange, enhancing access to climate finance. In addition, it will raise awareness of the Multilateral Climate Funds’ efforts, value, and impact and promote transparency.
