Sudan is one of the most drought susceptible countries in Africa. Drylands are home to nearly 70 percent of the country’s population. Increasingly erratic rainfall has resulted in recurrent droughts, together with crop failures, livestock deaths, and the deepening of poverty levels.

The project supports climate change adaptation efforts among subsistence agro-pastoralist and nomadic pastoralist communities in dryland zones across nine states in Sudan. Its overall goal is to promote a paradigm shift in dryland pastoral and farming systems through an integrated approach by increasing the resilience of food production systems and improving access to climate-resilient water sources. It supports the continuation of traditional livelihoods, with more resilient and sustainable practices. It is targeted at benefiting at least 200,000 households.
