Upscaling "Naatangue" integrated family and village farms for a resilient agriculture in Senegal

Upscaling "Naatangue" integrated family and village farms for a resilient agriculture in Senegal

Senegal is acutely exposed to climate risks, particularly in the agricultural sector which represents about 15 per cent of the country’s GDP. The agriculture and livestock sectors are highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, such as increased rainfall variability, land salinisation, water erosion, and recurring climate-related plant and agricultural crop diseases. These challenges can degrade up to two-thirds of the arable lands in the country by 2030 leading to yield losses, declining incomes, and unsustainable livelihoods.

To address these challenges, the project will improve sustainable agriculture in eight regions, strengthening the capacity of agricultural advisors and smallholder farms, and empower farmer entrepreneurship through market integration and accelerate new agricultural markets.

The project aims to scale up the proven Naatangué farming approach that has been successfully implemented by the National Agency for Agricultural Integration and Development (ANIDA) across Senegal. This model focuses on modernising and intensifying production systems and integrating opportunities for combined agriculture-livestock-fishing operations on small farms.
