The Green Climate Fund Board opens its eighteenth meeting today. This third meeting of the GCF Board this year is being hosted by the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Cairo.
The Board will consider a number of funding proposals from its Accredited Entities. GCF currently has a project portfolio of 43 projects, amounting to over USD 2.2 billion of committed GCF resources.
The Board will also consider a range of policy issues to strengthen the Fund's operations as well as reviewing applications for accreditation from five new organisations, all of which are applying to become direct access Accredited Entities.
Meetings of the Board in 2017 are co-chaired by Mr Ayman Shasly, of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Mr Ewen McDonald, of Australia.
The three-day meeting in Cairo will be attended by more than 300 observers from civil society and private sector organisations, National Designated Authorities (NDAs), which are the national conduits to the Fund, and Accredited Entities and other partners who assist in delivering climate finance to developing countries.
The proceedings of Board meetings are live-streamed on the GCF website.
