GCF seeks guidance on its REDD+ role

The Green Climate Fund will host three webinars on 15 March 2017 seeking feedback into its current development of a request for proposals for REDD+ results based payments.

The webinars offer organisations and relevant stakeholders an opportunity to guide the GCF Secretariat’s formulation of an upcoming request for proposals supporting REDD+, which stands for “reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries.”

GCF is seeking to fund particular areas of REDD+ results-based payments that drive shifts to low-emission sustainable development pathways by slowing, halting and reversing forest carbon loss.

GCF’s 14th Board meeting in October 2016 called on the GCF Secretariat to develop “a request for proposals for REDD+ results-based payments, including guidance consistent with the Warsaw Framework for REDD+ and other REDD+ decisions under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change."

The webinars will help representatives of organisations working in the REDD+ space learn more about the technical details of GCF’s public call for inputs on REDD+ results based payments, open from 24 February to 20 March 2017. Webinar participants will be able to ask questions and provide feedback about how GCF can best target its upcoming request for proposals.

GCF will hold the three separate webinars on 15 March to accommodate participants in different time zones:

• At 8:00 AM Korean Standard Time (UTM+9) / 6:00PM EST (14 March 2017): in Spanish language mainly for participants from Latin America
• At 3:00 PM Korean Standard Time (UTM+9) / 3:00PM KST: in English language mainly for participants from Asia
• At 5:00 PM Korean Standard Time (UTM+9) / 9:00AM CET: in English language mainly for participants from Africa and Europe
