Speaking at United Nations Headquarters in New York on the occasion of the Paris Agreement and Earth Day, GCF Executive Director Héla Cheikhrouhou today called for urgent action to drive low-emission, climate-resilient development.
She encouraged developing countries and the Fund’s partner institutions to bring to GCF funding proposals that enable a shift away from unsustainable business-as-usual development pathways.
The Fund has mobilized about USD 10 billion and has already made its first investments. It is the largest entity under the financial mechanism of the Paris Agreement, which was signed by more than 170 countries in New York today.
