Recognising Costa Rica’s REDD+ results for the years 2014, and 2015.

During these two years, Costa Rica has reduced 14.08 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂eq) in emissions, through reducing deforestation.

The Results Based Payments will be reinvested into Costa Rica’s Forestry Law, to be complemented by the country’s longstanding Payments for Environmental Services programme (PES programme). This is coupled with the goal to enhance the participation of relevant stakeholders, including indigenous peoples. The proposed use of proceeds aims to improve and scale up efforts in Costa Rica’s forest policy and programmes, in particular the Payment for Environmental Services (PES) national programme.
