A Message from Mafalda Duarte, GCF’s Executive Director

It is with great honour and a profound sense of responsibility that I step into my new role today as Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

I'm extremely grateful for the trust and vote of confidence the GCF Board has placed in me, as well as the encouragement I have received, and continue to receive, from numerous stakeholders, including the warm welcome from the GCF Secretariat.

GCF's mandate and role in supporting climate action in developing countries are truly unique and its potential is unparalleled. The Fund’s flexibility, scale of resources, and breadth of partners position it to drive significant innovation, partnerships, and impact beyond what institutions can achieve alone.

We must act with the urgency the climate crisis demands. I commit to doing everything I can, and working with all stakeholders, to ensure GCF delivers unprecedented impact with speed, scale, and a focus on social inclusion.

To that end, my priorities include the success of the GCF's second replenishment, a reform agenda anchored in efficiency and impact, supporting the most vulnerable countries and communities, and maximising the scale of resources and investments to secure our development and climate goals.
