On World Environment Day, women are bringing new life to Colombia’s wetlands
Tapping nature’s power to nurture green recovery
Local women are leading the restoration of north Colombian wetlands to reverse degradation from decades of unsustainable farming.
Bringing life back to this vital ecosystem in Colombia’s La Mojana region provides many climate benefits, in addition to bolstering livelihoods – key to fostering a green resilient recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. Well-functioning ecosystems sequester carbon emissions, enhance resilience to extreme weather events, increase food security, inhibit the release of new diseases and generate employment.
